The New Nutritional Powerhouse
November 5, 2010 · Filed under Uncategorized
Ok, so it’s not new. Actually, I have no idea how long it’s been around. And until I entered the blogosphere, I had never heard of it. So what is it?
First of all, let me just say, I know the same sounds a little… strange… but let me assure you, this stuff is like magic! Not only is it a main ingredient in vegan mac n cheese
ο»Ώ
but it also gives a nice cheesy kick to snacks! How about some cheesy popcorn?
Nutritional yeast is loaded with vitamin B12, so it’s especially great for vegans π
Have you tried Nutritional Yeast yet?
It’s been a pretty good week this week. I’ve been working out consistently & sticking with my no snacking after 8pm challenge. Oh, and this week I finally tried squash on my salad!
I suppose it’s hard to see the squash in there, among the peppers, chickpeas, black beans, onions, and spinach… but let me tell you, it was the star of the show! It feels good being a *reformed* salad hater!
Have you tried anything new on salads these days? I’m always looking for something new to spice up my greens!
Happy Friday π

Nutritional yeast is so awesome! I am not vegan, but I am sensitive to cow’s milk dairy, so I use it a lot to cheesy up my recipes!
What kind of squash is in your salad? I have yet to meet a squash I didn’t love, with kabocha being my absolute favorite!

I usually use butternut squash, because that’s my personal favorite, but I’m sure other varieties would be good too!

Never tried it on popcorn but that sounds amazing. I buy my nutritional yeast in bulk at Whole Foods so I have a lot right now!

I’ve never had nutritional yeast but if it tastes like my favorite food – CHEESE- I’m down with checking it out. π

Hahaha, yeah, nutritional yeast does sound really weird! Glad to hear it tastes good, and is good for you!
Nope, haven’t tried anything new on salads lately. But I think maybe I’ll have to try adding onions and beans to them! Somehow, I never remember to do that! But it looks really good on your salad, so thanks for the reminder!

I still haven’t tried nutritional yeast, despite seeing it in many vegetarian recipes. One of these days I’m bound to pick some up and use it!
My favorite lunch salad right now is chopped spinach with grapes, diced apple, strawberries, dried cranberries, toasted walnuts, and feta cheese.
Happy Friday to you π

I had never heard about nutritional yeast until I entered the blogging world either!! I LOVE it now!! Especially since it supplies me with the nutrients that I need since I don’t eat meat! Have you ever tried making Raw popcorn? Chop up cauliflower and throw it in a zip lock with a bunch of NOOCH and shake…it’s soooo yummy and good for you too!!
As far as salads go…I LOVE adding a huge scoop of hummus!!! I can’t get enough π

I have to be honest and say I have this in my fridge but never use it. I don’t know why but I’m nervous. Now I have to actually try it.

I was a little skeptical at first too! (The name alone is sort of scary) but try it and you won’t be disappointed!!!

I LOVE nutritional yeast! It’s a great add-in to salads or a steamed veggie topper. I make sauces with it a lot too.

I’ve never tried nutritional yeast before- I hear it’s like the best cheese replacement for vegans though!! I’m dying to try it out now. And I totally agree with you, I’m always looking for ways to spice up my salads!! I love avocado, sweet potatoes, nuts, and even fruit on my greens. So yummy!

I’ve yet to try nutritional yeast. Not because I don’t want to. It sounds yummy and an easy add on to many foods. I just hesitate paying more money for something I’m not sure I would like or how often I would use. Does it expire quickly?
